Sofia’s Sweet 16 at Stamford Yacht Club in Stamford, CT
I had the honor of photographing the most beautiful sweet 16! I first met Sofia’s mother, Ester, when her other daughter turned 16. She reached out again needing a photographer for Sofia’s party, and I am so happy to have been able to capture this milestone birthday and stunning party for them for the second time!
The party was hosted at Stamford Yacht Club in Stamford, CT. We met before the guests arrived to take solo portraits of Sofia as well as family portraits with her grandparents, parents, siblings, aunt and uncle. The theme of the party was cherry blossoms, and Sofia began wearing an olive colored suit and wanted to “blossom into a flower” by then changing into her stunning gown. It was off white and blush pink, and sparkled with every step!
She nailed every pose in her portraits, and the decor was so beautiful and well-planned. There was a stunning array of desserts and cherry blossom-decorated cakes, almost too pretty to eat! The party was a mixture of a quinceañera and a sweet 16 and incorporated many rich traditions. A quinceañera marks a young woman’s transition to adulthood, and the room was bursting with loved ones there to celebrate.
Her father walked her in, making a grand entrance with Sofia, followed by a toast. He then presented her with new shoes that she changed into, and her mother presented her with a gold crown. Next, they had their father/daughter dance, an emotional moment that symbolizes the eternal love between parent and child. Everyone ate and danced the night away, also incorporating special dance traditions. Finally, they had the 16-candle ceremony, dedicating candles to important people in Sofia’s life past and present.
